In the immortal memory of Heirax, oaths are eternal. He presides over every promise made, vow taken, and contract signed.
He is the weight behind one’s words, the dagger in a traitor’s back, and the scales upon which all life is judged. He is justice— the collective laws of society; and he is guilt— the wracking sensation of broken promises.
Let this justice be the hand of peace and the hammer of war.
Heirax is the second of the Court, and is respected as such. Without his presence and his closeness to Kophos, chaos and injustice would run rampant across the Realms and Auria. Wielding the Hammer of Judgment, Heirax delivered adjudication to mortals on Auria. However, his opinionated nature and false belief in his own infallibility caused ruptures to form amongst the Court during the Age of the Nine.
He and Avrina, the Dawnbringer, battled within the depths of the Obsidian Nexus over how best to deal with the mortals on Auria. Heirax’s victory in that battle came at a great cost: the release of the Spirit Beasts of the Nexus. Since then, devout worship of Heirax has waned.
If the incarnation of justice can be wrong, then perhaps it is not so unreasonable to believe that justice can be wrong as well.
Appearance. Heirax appears as a seven-foot tall, strikingly handsome male with a muscular build and cinnamon skin. Dressed in flowing, colorful robes with thick, wavy, and layered braids, Heirax’s skin is marred by various scars and cuts across his neck and cheeks. The most defining feature of Heirax are his gauntlets— a pair of unbelievably intricate, ornate, and beautifully crafted iron (or platinum) gauntlets.
Heirax’s thrones are JUSTICE, GUILT, and OATHS.
JUSTICE & GUILT: Heirax embodies all aspects of justice— the executioner, the judge, the jury. He punishes the guilty as determined by law, betrayal, or morals. He is the origination of all laws, the fist of justice, the striking blade of guilt, and the clasped palms of agreement.
OATHS: He holds all promises made and oaths sworn to their makers. From the smallest of promises to the sacred oaths of Paladins, Heirax hears and knows all earnest vows, and ensures that they are never broken and fulfilled.
Hunted. A member of the party failed to uphold a promise they made when they were younger. Now they are being hunted by the Oathkeepers, a faction of Heiraxan zealots dedicated to punishing those that break their promises.
Broken Oaths. A member of the party broke an oath they don’t remember making. Heirax preemptively punished them for it, but the party must now piece together their member’s fragmented memory to restore the oath once again, before they are smited.
Bring Justice. Heirax tasks the party with the punishment of a close friend who has broken their oath, if they do not carry out the judgment, they will have to answer to Heirax himself.
“Mete out justice wisely.”
“Punish those that would go against their word.”
“Keep all promises; don’t make any you cannot keep.”
